Sewer project underway
After much planning, discussion and special meetings throughout 2019 into 2020, the long awaited and a much needed sewer project is underway in Corning. Serious planning for the project began in 2019 with new sewer rates determined in order to complete the project.
Project Superintendent Scott Moore of Doxa Construction stated that work began last week with two manholes replaced on Sand Avenue. Monday morning in the 1200 block of Fifth Street, the Doxa crew was digging new sewer lines.
The total estimated cost of the construction and authorizing and issuing bonds is $1,045,000. The loan agreement with USDA Rural Development provides that the bond will bear interest at the lower of the prevailing Rural Development interest rate at the time of loan approval (2.5%) or the prevailing Rural Development interest rate at the time the bond is issued. Doxa Construction out of Sherwood, Arkansas won the bid for the project.
