Record number of Clay Countians cast votes during 2020 election
Election Commissioner Neal Smith reported a successful Election Day in Clay County with approximately 61.8% of registered voters having voted in the 2020 Election.
Due to Covid-19, Smith said, “We had to we condensed our polling sites at the community centers this year for early voting and that seemed to go well. People were disappointed not getting to vote at their precinct, but it's a strange time, but we do what we have to do. And I'm glad we did it that way.”
The commissioner thought that approximately 75% of votes were from early or absentee voters. “There were approximately 285 absentee, which was another huge record setting deal, you know, and the County Clerk’s office handled that real well.” Smith continued, “A vast majority of it went pretty smooth for a 2020 election. Everything's been different this year.”
